Oat

Oat is an agricultural crop grown for its abundant starchy grains (seeds). This grain, which is mostly used as animal feed, is also used in human nutrition. A field of oats can be easily distinguished from the others by its scattered clusters of ears, unlike those of wheat or barley. Each of the spikelets at the ends of the pedicels contains two or three seeds. Two (or three) of these seeds, which are covered with an outer sheath (inner husk), are again surrounded by two membranous leaves (outer husk).
